Who I am and how I work
Hello, I'm Claire
I'm a professional declutterer and I've been helping people create home and work spaces they love for nearly 10 years.
As we’re all unique, and I believe in responding to the individuality of each person and their situation, each decluttering experience will be different, tailored to my client. That said, we will usually start by talking about where you are, about how you feel in and about your space, what works and doesn’t work for you and to take some time to clarify what you would like from decluttering.
We will then work together, at your pace, to make that vision a reality. Typically this involves careful sorting of belongings, reviewing what they mean to you and deciding whether you want to keep them or say goodbye to them. Sometimes this is straightforward and I recognise that this is not always the case. The things we surround ourselves with have come into our lives through choice, gift, inheritance and they have meaning.
Together we will explore what they mean for you- do you love them, are they useful, are they being used in the right way/ place. Sometimes telling the story of the object or the person it came from can be enough to clarify what you want to do with it. I also have some great ideas about how to use things differently or how to honour and preserve a memory while letting go of the object itself.
In addition to the detailed attention to individual objects and areas we’ll simultaneously be looking at the overall feel and flow of the room or of the property as a whole.
I’ve worked with clients on a one- off basis, spending one session reorganising a home office to reflect a change in career, right through to weekly or monthly sessions over a number of years, decluttering every area in the home, including the attic, garage and even the patio.
To every decluttering job I bring my years of experience, organisation and decluttering skills and come armed with plenty of practical solutions, tips and suggestions.
Often when we make changes in one area of our life, we experience shifts in others. Clearing a room may stir memories and feelings from our past. Letting go of objects we no longer need and creating a space which we really love may lead us to make more satisfying choices about how we spend our time and money.
I am passionate about supporting people to live full and satisfying lives and in addition to creating beautiful clear physical spaces I have a thriving therapy practice in North London, working with individuals to clear their internal landscapes and whatever emotional or behavioural clutter might be getting in the way. I’m a qualified humanistic psychotherapist, registered with the BACP. My extensive training and experience as a therapist means I can sensitively witness and skilfully support the emotional aspects of clearing which may arise during decluttering.
I also support people to have a deeper connection to self and to the natural world around us through meditation, mindfulness and nature-connection therapy. Once we've created a clear space for you, I also offer a unique service to help you find your bliss at home through meditation, breathwork and nature-connection (possible even inside and in the city!). I'll teach you simple practices and help you find the perfect place to do them. You can read more about my nature-connection work at www.natureasnurture.com
My passion for us all to be living full and satisfying lives, in nourishing and beautiful spaces is fed in both strands of my working life. I feel very lucky to have two professions I love.
